Nathan King

Kingez

Hove Street Art Gallery is owned and curated by Brighton-born resident artist, Nathan King, ‘Kingez’. In addition to exhibiting art by some of the UK’s most exciting artists, Nathan also donates income from the sales of all his original art to the charity KidsOut who help women and children affected by domestic abuse. The women and children are given a same place to called home within the many refuges they support. Several being in the Brighton region.

Nathan spent his childhood and early teens in the city but has spent much of his life overseas. As a typically rebellious teenager, he was drawn by the structure of the armed forces, and in 1988 joined the prestigious Queens Regiment as a soldier infantryman.

He served in the First Gulf War, did two terms in Northern Ireland in Belfast and County Armagh, and was posted to several overseas units, including ones in Kenya and Canada.
In 1999 he moved to New York and started working in Security which led to his role as Protection for the British Ambassador. It was whilst living in New York he started to become interested in art, spending hours visiting galleries and museums. He was also intrigued by the graffiti in the subways, particularly those in Brooklyn.
